As our understanding of the universe has changed over time, so has the practice of science. Chemistry in its modern form, based on principles that we consider valid today, was developed in the 1600s and 1700s. Before that, the study of matter was known as alchemy Chemistry is the study of matter and the changes it undergoes and considers both macroscopic and microscopic information. Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. The five main disciplines of chemistry are physical chemistry, organic chemistry, Inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry.
The faculty members of the department are committed to quality teaching and research. With a strong foundation in the conventional areas and quest for emerging areas of Chemistry, faculty and students are engaged with the goal to develop functional materials for their potential applications covering the broad areas of Chemistry.
At present, the department is led by Prof. Nand Lal Chaudhary (Ph.D. Chemistry).
The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1985, With the natural growth classes of B.Sc. Part-I, II & III came into being. The Graduate course in Chemistry was introduced in the session 1985-86. Despite the fierce competition, the department has succeeded in producing spectacular results for the B.Sc. classes.
